What it means
An excess of the fluid in the amniotic sac, found on ultrasound. It is linked to diabetes in the pregnant client and to some fetal problems, especially those that stop the baby from swallowing fluid normally. It raises the risk of preterm labor, an abnormal fetal position, cord prolapse when the membranes break, and bleeding after birth.
