What it means

One of the three bones (with the ilium and ischium) that fuse to form each hip bone. The two pubic bones join at the front by a pad of cartilage, the symphysis pubis. In pregnancy, hormones loosen this joint. The top of the uterus is measured from the symphysis pubis to estimate the growth of a pregnancy (fundal height).
