What it means
A team approach to getting back function after events such as a stroke, joint replacement, spinal cord injury, heart attack or long illness. Physical therapists work on strength and movement, occupational therapists on daily tasks, speech therapists on speech and swallowing, and nurses on self-care, safety and teaching. It can happen in a hospital, a rehab center or at home.
For the nurse
Encourage the client to do as much as possible for themselves, with extra time. Set realistic goals together and praise progress.
