What it means
A biting instrument used in orthopedic, spine and brain surgery to nibble away bone or tough tissue. Types include the Kerrison, used in the spine, and the Leksell. The name comes from the French for "gnawer."
For the nurse
The pieces bitten off can be saved as specimens or as bone graft, so the scrub person keeps them as the surgeon directs.
