What it means
The ending for an operation that stitches a part closed or back together. A herniorrhaphy repairs a hernia with stitches; a colporrhaphy repairs the vaginal wall; a tenorrhaphy sews a torn tendon. The double r follows the same pattern as -rrhea and -rrhage.
