What it means
One of the four main lobes of each cerebral hemisphere. It lies on the side of the head, near the temples. It processes sound, helps form and store memories, and, usually on the left side, helps a person understand spoken language. Damage here, from stroke, injury or seizures, can cause memory loss, trouble understanding words, or strange smells, feelings or déjà vu before a seizure.
