VLDL

Very low-density lipoprotein: a particle made by the liver that carries fats, mostly triglycerides, in the blood.

vee-el-dee-el (said as letters) abbreviation

What it means

One of the lipoproteins that move fat through the bloodstream. VLDL carries triglycerides from the liver to the body's tissues and is turned into LDL as it gives them up. A lipid panel often estimates it from the triglyceride level, and high levels add to the build-up of plaque in arteries.
