What it means
A planned visit to a health care provider when the child is not sick. Visits happen often in the first two years and then yearly. The child's height, weight and head size are plotted on growth charts, development is checked against milestones, vaccines are given and the family gets guidance on safety, feeding, sleep and what to expect next.
For the nurse
Measure and plot growth, review the vaccine record, screen development, hearing and vision as scheduled, and teach age-based safety such as car seats, safe sleep and poison prevention.
