What is it?Right Angle Clamp
Also known asMixter Forceps · Right Angle Forceps · Gemini Forceps · Right Angle
Primary usesDissects around vessels and ducts and clamps them. Often used to pass a tie or vessel loop under a vessel or duct so the surgeon can pull it around to tie off or retract the structure.
InsightsA ring-handled, ratcheted clamp whose jaws bend at nearly a right angle near the tip. Horizontal serrations run the length of the jaws.
Inspection & testingCheck that the angled tips meet exactly with no crossing over, and look for cracks at the bend. Close it and check that the jaws line up and the serrations mesh all the way to the tip. Look for cracks, pitting or debris in the box lock, and gently push the open handles in opposi…
Passing techniquePass it closed on the first ratchet. Hold it at the box lock, keep your fingers off the tips, and place the rings firmly into the surgeon's palm. Angled clamps like this are usually passed with the angled tip pointing down.
CautionThe tips are thin; forcing them through dense fascia can spring or break the jaws.
