What it means
A collection used to measure substances that vary through the day, such as creatinine clearance (kidney function), protein, sodium, cortisol or hormones. The client empties the bladder at the start time and throws that urine away, then saves every void for the next 24 hours, ending with a final void at the stop time.
For the nurse
Post a sign so no urine is thrown out, keep the container on ice or refrigerated as directed, and restart the test if any urine is lost. Record the start and stop times.
