What it means
A brief handout, often one or two pages, from a health agency, drug maker or hospital. Fact sheets are used to teach clients about a disease, a test, a drug or a vaccine; vaccine information statements, for example, must be given before many vaccines in the US.
For the nurse
Choose materials written at a low reading level, in the client's preferred language, and go over them together rather than just handing them out. Use teach-back to check understanding.
