What it means
Client identification means matching the right client to the right care. The Joint Commission requires at least two identifiers, such as the client's full name and date of birth, before giving drugs or blood, taking samples or doing procedures. A room number is never an identifier.
For the nurse
Ask the client to state their name and date of birth and compare them with the wristband and the order, every time. For a client who cannot answer, use the wristband and facility policy.
