What it means
A broad term for the people a client is closest to, whether or not they are legally related, such as a partner, close friend or chosen family. The client decides who these people are and who may receive information about their care.
For the nurse
Ask the client who they want involved and who may receive health information, and chart it. Do not assume a partner or family member has the right to information.
