What it’s for
Makes the driveline exit site in a HeartMate 3 LVAD implant. The tunneling lance carries the pump cable from the pump pocket through the right rectusREK-tusLatin for straight; the name of several straight muscles, such as the rectus abdominis of the abdomen and the rectus femoris of the thigh.Full entry muscle and fat to the right upper abdomen. Before the lance tip comes through the skin, the exit site is marked, the punch cuts a circular incision at the mark, and the lance tip is brought out through that hole.
Lengths and variants
6 mm. One comes in the HeartMate 3 Implant Kit (106524US) and the Mini Kit (10001696), and one in the Surgical Accessories Spares Kit (10006827). Also sold alone as the HeartMate 3 Skin Punch (106528US).
