What it’s for
Gives cardioplegia backward through the coronary sinusSY-nusA hollow space in the body, most often one of the air-filled spaces in the skull bones around the nose.Full entry during heart surgery on bypass to protect the myocardiummy-oh-KAR-dee-umThe thick middle layer of the heart wall, made of heart muscle that contracts to pump blood.my/o musclecardi/o heart-um structureFull entry . The surgeon passes it through a purse-string stab wound in the right atriumAY-tree-umOne of the two upper chambers of the heart, which receive blood coming back to the heart.atri/o atrium-um noun endingFull entry into the coronary sinus. The balloon blocks the sinus so the solution flows backward, and a pressure line shows coronary sinus pressure. It is often Y-ed with the antegrade cardioplegia line so either route can be used.
