After the anus is gently dilated, the proctoscope goes in and is rotated until the Doppler ultrasoundDOP-ler UL-truh-soundAn ultrasound that uses sound waves to hear or show blood flowing through vessels or the fetal heartbeat.Full entry sound of a hemorrhoidal artery is heard. The artery is tied with a figure-of-eight stitch passed through the window, and loss of the Doppler signal confirms it is closed. This is repeated around the circle (often six to eight sites), and running mucopexy stitches are placed through the same window to lift prolapsing tissue.
