About the procedure

The case

Hammer toe repair surgery is a procedure used to correct a deformity in the second, third, or fourth toe, in which the toe bends at the middle joint and takes on the shape of a hammer. The condition can cause pain, discomfort, and difficulty wearing shoes. During the surgery, the surgeon may remove a small piece of bone to straighten the affected toe, or may reposition tendons to help straighten the toe. In severe cases, the surgeon may fuse the toe joint to prevent it from bending.
