About the procedure

The case

Limb lengthening with the internal nail method is a surgical procedure used to increase the length of a limb that is shorter than the other due to congenital conditions, injuries, or diseases. The procedure involves making a small incision in the bone and inserting an internal telescoping nail device that is attached to the bone. Over time, the nail is gradually lengthened using a special magnet, which separates the segments of the nail, and new bone tissue grows in the gap.
