What it means
One of the four quadrants used to describe the abdomen. Lines through the navel, one up and down and one across, make the four parts. The right upper quadrant holds most of the liver, the gallbladder, part of the small bowel and colon, and the right kidney behind them. "Right" always means the client's right, not the examiner's.
In a chart
"Client reports sharp RUQ pain after fatty meals."
