What it means
The part of care that helps a client feel and function better, whether or not the disease itself can be cured. It uses drugs and non-drug methods such as positioning, relaxation, diet changes and rest. It is the center of palliative and end-of-life care, and it matters in every long-term illness.
For the nurse
Ask the client to rate each symptom, act on it, and check again to see if what you did worked. Teach clients and families how to manage symptoms at home.
