Inserted through the femoral arteryFEM-er-ul AR-ter-eeThe large artery that carries blood to the leg, running through the groin and down the thigh.Full entry and positioned in the descending aorta for intra-aortic balloon pump support. The catheter is connected to the pump console, which inflates and deflates the balloon in time with the heartbeat.
Lengths and variants
Balloon volume is chosen by patient height: 30 cc for about 147 to 162 cm, 40 cc for 162 to 182 cm, 50 cc for over 173 cm (Arrow sizing). Catheters are 7 to 8 Fr. Arrow kits include a standard sheathSHEETHA covering that wraps around a structure; in procedures, a short hollow tube left in a blood vessel to pass catheters through.Full entry and a sheath with a sidearm, and two 0.025 inch J guidewires.
