What it’s for

The test cable's mini hook clips to the bare part of the needle and the external stimulator is turned on: a bellows response (the perineumpair-ih-NEE-umThe area of skin and muscle between the genitals and the anus.perine/o perineumFull entry flattens) and flexion of the great toe confirm S3. The inner stylet is then pulled and the directional guide (full implant) or temporary lead (PNE) goes down the needle, and the needle is removed over it.
Lengths and variants
Short (about 9 cm) and long (about 12.5 cm). The long needle is used in patients with a larger body habitus. The length used decides which mark on the directional guide or temporary lead lines up with the needle. Medtronic packs them as 8.8 cm and 12.6 cm needles.
