A small, flat metal case with a clear connector block where the lead plugs in. Windows in the block show the lead's four contacts, and a setscrew locks the lead in place.

The surgeon makes a pocket in the upper buttock below the belt line, usually on the same side as the lead, and tunnels the lead to it. The lead is pushed into the generator until all four contacts show in the windows and the setscrew is tightened with the torque wrench until it clicks once. The pocket is irrigationeer-ih-GAY-shunWashing out a wound, body cavity, tube or eye with a steady flow of liquid.Full entry , the generator goes in with the extra lead tucked behind it, and impedance is checked with the programmer before closing.
Lengths and variants
Rechargeable and non-rechargeable models. Rechargeable devices may last 20 years or more; charging is needed every 1 to 2 weeks or every 6 to 10 months depending on the device.
