Why does my case say Second Scrub when I did the whole case?

Your role comes from the five-item checklist on the case log form, and it's set the moment you submit.

• All five checked (or marked N/A): First Scrub
• One to four checked: Second Scrub
• None checked: Observation

N/A counts as done

If a step genuinely didn't apply to the case, mark it N/A rather than leaving it blank. A blank box is what turns a First Scrub case into a Second Scrub one.

Fixing a mistake

The role is locked when you submit. If you left a box blank by accident, ask your instructor to correct the log. They can.

How cases count

• Only approved cases count toward your totals. Pending and returned cases don't.
• One case covering two specialties counts once in each.
• If your program follows AST, observation cases don't count at all. Under NCCT and CC4SA they do.

Filling in the form faster

Pick the hospital first. The surgeon list narrows to people who operate there. If your hospital, surgeon or procedure isn't listed, use add your own at the bottom of the list; it becomes available for next time.
